“Martin Basso, a name increasingly on the radar, has taken a bold step – bringing the vibrancy of Vinho Verde to red wine. He’s employing a somewhat unusual choice with hand-picked Padeiro grapes, and meticulously crafting the wine in 500-litre vats. The 16-month ageing in used French oak barrels is expected to add a welcome layer of complexity, and it’s particularly suited to pairing with grilled fish or a classic Bacalhau à Brás.”
