Founded in 1756 in the Pfalz region of Germany, the J.L. Wolf estate—now known as Villa Wolf—was a highly regarded winery for more than two centuries. It enjoyed a particularly glamorous era when its house and Italian villa were built in 1843. In the late 20th century, the estate began to decline, lacking decisive leadership for its wine production. In 1996, Ernst Loosen of the Dr. Loosen estate took over the vineyards, sparking a dramatic improvement in quality and reputation. Since 2011, a young, talented team formerly at Dr. Loosen, led by Sumi Gebauer and Patrick Möllendorf, has infused renewed energy and focus into Villa Wolf’s viticulture and winemaking.
