Description

Located in Folgosa, Quinta dos Frades is one of the most beautiful and emblematic estates in the Douro wine region. Its records date back to 1256, when it was donated to the Monastery of Santa Maria de Salzedas, becoming one of the most important agricultural units owned by the Cistercian order in the area. A fortified, imposing and majestic house dominates the estate’s 200 hectares. A stunning landscape stretches along the left bank of the Douro for 1,900 metres, punctuated by a wide variety of tall cypresses, orange trees, almond trees and olive trees. The property has 100 hectares of vineyards, almost half of which are over 90 years old. Building on the knowledge accumulated over centuries in winemaking, the estate launched, in 2008, a portfolio of wines, among which stands out the Quinta dos Frades DOC Douro red, awarded and recognised as one of the best in the Douro.
