Description

Located in Folgosa, Quinta dos Frades is one of the most beautiful and emblematic estates of the Douro wine region. Its records date back to 1256, when it was donated to the Monastery of Santa Maria de Salzedas, becoming one of the most important agricultural units owned by the Cistercian order in the area. A fortified, imposing and majestic house dominates the 200 hectares of the estate. A stunning landscape stretches along the left bank of the Douro for 1,900 metres, dotted with tall cypresses, orange trees, almond trees and olive trees. The property boasts 100 hectares of vineyards, almost half over 90 years old. Drawing on centuries of winemaking expertise, the estate launched a portfolio of wines in 2008, highlighted by the award‑winning Quinta dos Frades DOC Douro red, recognised as one of the best in the Douro.
