Located in Folgosa, Quinta dos Frades is one of the most beautiful and emblematic properties in the Douro wine region. Its records date back to 1256, when it was donated to the Monastery of Santa Maria de Salzedas, becoming one of the most important agricultural estates the Cistercian order held in this region. A fortified manor house, imposing and majestic, overlooks the estate's 200 hectares. The landscape is breathtaking, stretching along the left bank of the Douro for 1,900 meters and dotted with a variety of towering cypresses, orange trees, almond trees, and olive trees. The property has 100 hectares of vineyards, nearly half of which are over 90 years old. Drawing on centuries of accumulated winemaking knowledge, the estate launched a portfolio of wines in 2008, among which the Quinta dos Frades DOC Douro red stands out, award-winning and recognized as one of the finest wines in the Douro.
