Description

Located in Folgosa, Quinta dos Frades is one of the most beautiful and emblematic wine estates in the Douro region. Its records date back to 1256, when it was donated to the Monastery of Santa Maria de Salzedas, becoming one of the most important agricultural units owned by the Cistercian order in the area. A fortified, imposing, and majestic house dominates the 200 hectares of the estate. A stunning landscape stretches along the left bank of the Douro for 1,900 metres, dotted with a wide variety of tall cypress trees, orange trees, almond trees and olive trees. The property has 100 hectares of vineyards, almost half of which are over 90 years old. Drawing on knowledge accumulated over centuries of wine production, the estate launched, in 2008, a portfolio of wines, among which the Quinta dos Frades DOC Douro red stands out, award‑winning and recognised as one of the best in the Douro.
