This VZ Reserva Tawny certainly seems to have enjoyed a good six years pondering its own age, maturing in oak casks with plenty of stories to tell. The prominent nutty notes aren’t accidental – a testament to a vineyard with deep roots, as they say – and a subtle honeying finish recalls the honey once used to polish those very same barrels. That creamy toffee-like aftertaste confirms that, with the Douro’s grapes, a touch of patience is undeniably rewarded. Wonderful with aged cheeses or a superb Iberico ham, naturally.
