Susana Esteban

Susana Esteban is an acclaimed winemaker who was the first woman to receive the "Winemaker of the Year" award in Portugal in 2011, and "Producer of the Year" in 2022. Originally from Galicia, Spain, she built her reputation in the Douro Valley before moving to the Alentejo region to start her own project in 2009. She specializes in producing wines from old, non-irrigated vines, primarily in the cooler, elevated sub-region of Serra de São Mamede in Alto Alentejo. Her philosophy emphasizes that "wine that is made in the vineyard and not in the winery".
