Jura

Jura, a small region tucked between Burgundy and Switzerland, produces some of France's most idiosyncratic wines on Liassic clay-marl soils. The most distinctive style is Vin Jaune from Savagnin, aged at least six years under a film of yeast without topping up — yielding intensely nutty, sherry-like dry whites that age for decades. Crémant du Jura sparklings, Trousseau and Poulsard reds (pale, perfumed, almost Pinot-like), and Macvin and Vin de Paille round out an extraordinary offer. The natural-wine movement has placed Jura at the centre of low-intervention French winemaking.
