In Portugal’s wine landscape, there is no producer more widely acclaimed than Niepoort. The long story begins in 1842, when the first Van Der Niepoort arrived in the country. Starting out in the Port wine market as a merchant, he quickly set up a business that would prove both prosperous and forward‑looking. Thus, in the fifth generation, Dirk Niepoort was born—a pivotal figure in the wine world, recognized as one of the most important people to have worked, and who continues to work, for the benefit of Portuguese wine. He has collaborated with dozens of producers, helping them improve their wines and understand their vineyards, while also building his legacy alongside those who are constantly creating bold, unconventional wines. Today, Dirk Niepoort is involved in many other projects across almost all of Portugal’s wine regions—and in several abroad. The bottling year may not match the image shown.
