The 40 Castas Reserva Touriga Nacional Tinto 2023 is a red wine from the Douro produced by NR Winery, dedicated to Touriga Nacional, Portugal's most emblematic red grape variety. The winemaking follows a traditional method: the grapes are foot-trodden in a lagar, and fermentation takes place in an open lagar with controlled temperature. The wine then ages for 18 months in neutral French oak barrels, followed by 3 more months in bottle. Deep ruby in colour, it has a strong aromatic profile, with prominent violet notes and a subtle minty nuance that enhances the freshness of the grape, over a background of light toast. On the palate it has good presence, is soft and round, with red fruit, compote, a silky texture and polished tannins, and the elegance of vanilla and well-integrated barrel notes. The finish is long and spicy. A dry red at 14% vol., it pairs well with grilled red meats, roast kid goat, and aged cheeses. Serve between 14 and 16 ºC.
