It was in 1927 that 11 members, led by Domingos Silva and Ângelo Neves, decided to found Aliança in Sangalhos (Anadia), a company that now boasts over 80 years of history. The winery began its operations by immediately exporting to Brazil, Africa, and Europe, and today more than 50 % of its production is earmarked for export—particularly wines, sparkling wines, and brandy—making Aliança a recognized brand in Portugal and in roughly 60 countries. In 2007, Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal acquired a majority stake in Aliança, bringing it under the Bacalhôa Group. The corporate name of Caves Aliança S.A. was changed to Aliança Vinhos de Portugal S.A., and the company’s institutional image was updated at that time. Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, one of Portugal’s largest and most innovative wine enterprises, has, over the years, developed a broad portfolio of wines that has earned it a solid reputation and the loyalty of both national and international consumers. The company operates in seven Portuguese wine regions, covering a total of 1,200 ha of vineyards, 40 estates, 40 different grape varieties, and four winemaking centers (cellars).
