Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, founded in 1922 under the name João Pires & Filhos, has embarked on a long journey, establishing itself as one of Portugal’s most innovative wine producers. The company began by producing wines from grapes grown in the Palmela region. Throughout the 1980s, Bacalhôa expanded, acquiring estates across the country and setting new standards for quality wine production. Considered the most beautiful estate from the first half of the 15th century still extant in Portugal, the Quinta da Bacalhôa is an old royal property of the Portuguese Crown. Located in Azeitão, the Quinta and the famed Palácio da Bacalhôa form an artistic monument of great importance to the nation. Today, the Quinta belongs to Fundação Berardo, linked to the family bearing the same name and led by patriarch Comendador José Berardo. It was designated a National Monument on 23 June 1910. In the surroundings of the Quinta da Bacalhôa, visitors find picturesque villages, cellars and one of Portugal’s most beautiful and imposing landscapes – the Arrábida Natural Park.
