A Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, founded in 1922 under the name João Pires & Filhos, has charted a long journey, establishing itself as one of Portugal’s most innovative wine producers. The company’s activities began with the production of wines from grapes grown in the Palmela region. Throughout the 1980s, Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal expanded by acquiring estates across the country, setting new paradigms for quality wine production. Regarded as the most beautiful estate from the first half of the 15th century still existing in Portugal, Quinta da Bacalhôa is an ancient property of the Portuguese Royal House. Located in Azeitão, the estate and the renowned Palace of Bacalhôa form an artistic monument of great national significance. Today, Quinta da Bacalhôa belongs to the Berardo Foundation, run by the eponymous family whose patriarch is Commander José Berardo. Designated a National Monument on 23 June 1910, the surrounding area offers picturesque villages, wine cellars and one of Portugal’s most beautiful and imposing landscapes – the Arrábida Natural Park.
