The Donissan family of Citran governed this estate in the 13th century until 1832, when the last heir had to sell the property to Mr. Clauzel. This wealthy and ambitious entrepreneur set the estate’s boundaries and gave Château Citran prominence among the Medoc states. The Miailhe family bought the property in 1945 and carried out a renovation program until 1987. Then a Japanese group acquired the estate and made large investments. This marks the resurrection of this great Medoc growth! In 1996 the Merlaut family, one of the leading figures in Bordeaux wine, took over Citran. They continued to raise the quality of the growth and develop its reputation by respecting its history. Highly praised, the Château was designated a historical heritage monument in 2012.
