According to its age, wines may show signs of time, such as dust on the bottles and/or some label damage—common in bottles that have spent decades in storage. The National Cellar stores all wines at the correct temperature and humidity but always preserves the visual appearance appropriate to their age. We generally select brands/regions that perform well in vintage wine competitions. Yet wine is a living organism that, like any other, ages, and even inside a bottle its aromas evolve. Thus the National Cellar cannot be held responsible for the wine’s quality, given that it is an aged wine. Our recommendation is to open and let the bottle breathe first, which will help release the natural aromas after so many years closed. Avoid decanting, as it can be too aggressive for old wines.
