Château Latour lies in the heart of Médoc, in the Bordeaux region, and covers 92 hectares of vineyards, predominantly planted with Cabernet Sauvignon. The estate is steeped in history that goes back to 1378, when the land became the property of Gaucelme de Castillon, who erected a garrison fort 300 metres from the estuary to guard against attacks during the Hundred Years’ War. The tower—named La Tour—gave its name to the surrounding estate. It remained in English hands until the Battle of Castillon in 1453, when it was completely destroyed by the forces of the French king. The original tower no longer exists, but in 1620 a new circular tower was built by Simon Ledwidge, which has since become the symbol of the property. (Illustrative image)
