Although the nose displays the seductive, opulent character of red fruit, a common trait of Roêda Vintage Ports, there are also intense wild berry aromas that add focus and delicacy. As always, the fruit is wrapped in exotic balsamic, minty and eucalyptus aromas. The first impression on the palate is of a rich, velvety texture, yet it shows excellent acidity and well-integrated tannins that emerge on the finish. The finish is powerful and very long, with persistent, crisp red fruit flavors. While the Roêda Vintage 2018 is, as ever, mature and seductive, the character of the vintage and the contribution of wines from Roêda's oldest vineyards have placed this superb single-Quinta Vintage Port at the elegant, restrained end of the spectrum.
