The Delaforce family, of Huguenot origin, has a wine‑trading history that stretches back over 400 years. Their involvement in the Port wine business dates to 1834, when John Fleurriet Delaforce travelled to the city of Porto to set up the new Martinez Gassiot company on behalf of his partners. In 1868, his son George Henry Delaforce, inspired by the richness of the Douro and the world of Port, founded his own company, the House of Delaforce.
