Since 1751, Ferreira has always been a synonym for high‑quality Portuguese wine. The brand’s history intertwines with that of the evolution of the Demarcated Douro Region, established in 1756, and its Port and still wines. Years later, the family business was run by Antónia Adelaide, widow of António Bernardo II. Known for her exceptional energy and rare commercial talent, she gave a great boost to viticulture in the Douro and developed a noted social assistance program in the area. After her death, the company became a limited partnership and entered a new phase of expansion, always preserving its core values. These principles have carried Ferreira to the present and were instrumental in creating iconic wines such as the legendary Barca Velha in the 1950s. Since 1987, under the management of Sogrape Vinhos, which has taken the lead in the national Port market and introduced prestigious wine labels like Quinta da Leda.
