Referenced since 1751, Ferreira has always been a synonym for high‑quality Portuguese wine. The brand’s history is intertwined with the evolution of the Demarcated Douro Region, established in 1756, and its Ports and dry wines. Years later, the family company came under the management of Antónia Adelaide, widow of António Bernardo II, who, known for her exceptional energy and rare commercial talent, gave a major boost to viticulture in the Douro and developed a notable social‑assistance programme in the area. After her death, the company became a limited partnership and entered a new phase of expansion while maintaining its core values. These values have carried Ferreira to the present day and were instrumental in creating wines such as the mythical Barca Velha in the 1950s. Since 1987, under the management of Sogrape Vinhos—which has come to lead the national Port market and still introduces prestigious wine brands such as Quinta da Leda—the bottling year may not correspond to the image shown.
