The Paulistas, a name given to the hermits of the Order of Saint Paul who had been making wine here for so long that the exact date has slipped from memory. Nonetheless, a Papal Bull of 1397 exempted “The Paulistas” from taxes on their vineyards, underscoring the importance of this place. The site is special, fed by two streams that bring water from the Serra D’Ossa, keeping the water close and the soil cool, so no irrigation is needed for optimal grape development. The grapes, also from another era and planted in 1970 – Tinta Carvalha, Moreto, Castelão, Alfrocheiro and Trincadeira – show that there once was an Alentejo without irrigation and without improved varieties. An Alentejo worth restoring; this is our tribute to the Paulistas. Ruby colour with violet hints, medium concentration. On the nose, plenty of red forest fruit, with a touch of herb. Fresh attack, good fruit with pomegranate notes. Very refined, long and structured.
