The history of Luís Pato wines begins when João Pato starts bottling his wines, sourced from his own vineyard, in 1970. After becoming the first bottling producer in the Bairrada region following its demarcation, his son Luís Pato continues his father’s work, and thus in 1980 a new era starts for the family business. Today the company owns 60 hectares of vineyard, spread across sandy and clay‑limestone soils. Bottles of older wines may show traces of dust and damaged labels, as is expected with age. The National Cellar is obliged to store all wines at the correct temperature and humidity, but it always chooses to preserve the visual appearance inherent to their age. We select brands/regions that, normally, reveal distinct characteristics in tastings of older wines. However, we note that wine is a living organism exposed to time, and even within a bottle, aromas evolve in different ways. Thus, the National Cellar cannot be held responsible for the product’s quality, given that it is an old wine. Our recommendation is to open the bottle and let the wine breathe beforehand, as this will help release its natural aromas after many years of closure. If you choose to decant the wine before serving, make sure you do it patiently to detect the sediment that an old wine tends to form. (illustrative image)
