The Lua Cheia em Vinhas Velhas project stems from the passionate bond that its three founders – João Silva e Sousa, Francisco Baptista and Manuel Dias – have maintained with the Douro for over twenty years. After many years of being amazed by this unique wine region, 2009 marked the moment they decided to show their vision of Douro wines. The company's story began that year with Murça white wines, a forgotten area of progress that nevertheless produces distinctive, identity‑rich wines. In 2010, investment began in a cellar in Martim, Douro, and in 2012, in Monção, the birthplace of Alvarinho. In 2013, a partnership was also launched in the Alentejo, where selected grapes from Estremoz were vinified in third‑party facilities. As the project grew, it joined forces with Saven, S.A., already a partner in this venture and active in the food and beverage sector, giving rise to Lua Cheia – Saven, better positioned to meet increasing demand and to enter other markets. With this union, the group gained additional associated brands, partners of the Wines & Winemakers By Saven group, representing various Portuguese regions. (illustrative image only)
