**Maçanita Concept** It isn’t the Verdelho–Gouveio, nor the Verdelho–Verdejo; it is the Verdelho–Verdelho, the Original. Verdelho is an indigenous grape of the Azores, distinct from the “Verdelhos” of mainland Portugal and shared with neighboring Madeira. This Verdelho is the “Original” – the one from the islands, the one that embodies freshness, salinity, mineral richness, and the unique perfume that makes Verdelho what it is… the Verdelho! **Vinification** - Hand‑picked, selective harvest in 20‑kg baskets. - Whole‑cluster pressing. - Transfer to the tank after 12 hours. - Spontaneous fermentation in horizontal tanks of 600–1000 L. **Maturation** - 30 % in barrels for six months on fine lees. **Soils** Soils of lagode and volcanic biscuit formed between 1500 and 2000 years ago. **Viticulture** A unique terroir in the world, set in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, at the base of the volcanic mountain Pico. The vines are planted in rock fissures, close to the sea, where one can hear the “cracking of crabs,” a place that receives the most sun and warmth. Often, the vines are only a few meters from the coast, requiring protective walls (hedges) against the strong, salty Atlantic winds. **Sulphite Analysis:** 70 ppm **Allergen Information** Contains sulphites.
