Manoella “to create wines that express the full character of old vineyards and indigenous Douro grapes, seeking balance between concentration, complexity and elegance” is the main goal of the winemaking duo Sandra Tavares da Silva and Jorge Serôdio Borges, who since 2001 have been investing in old vines and estates in the Rio Pinhão valley. It is there that Manoella Tinto is born, at Quinta da Manoella, a historic estate that has belonged to the family for five generations. Derived from 41‑year‑old vines with southwest exposure, surrounded by a beautiful Mediterranean forest that creates a unique microclimate and atmosphere, the carefully selected and destemmed grapes are foot‑pressed for 12 hours in granite vats, after which they ferment in tanks over eight days. The wine is aged in neutral French oak barrels for 16 months.
