Born in the heart of the Douro’s Baixo Corgo, this Maquia – a project passionately crafted by Álvaro Martinho Lopes and Dirk Niepoort – is a true testament to ancient vines. These ‘built by hand and iron’ vineyards, boasting 4.5 hectares facing the sun and 3 hectares with northerly exposure, create a remarkably expressive terroir. The complex blend of grapes, coupled with a sustainable approach that embraces biodiversity, yields a production so limited – almost garage-style – yet brimming with elegance and finesse. It’s a superb accompaniment to grilled beef, enhancing the richness of the meat with its vibrant acidity and structure.
