Niepoort – A special limited edition of only 100 units, with identity, imagery and production signed by Omdesign, entirely inspired by Dirk Niepoort, one of the most iconic and charismatic ambassadors of Port wine. The case is crafted from oak wood and features screen‑printed elements titled “Rolf & The Collectors,” evoking the look of an old toolbox. Inside, you’ll find a bottle, four hand‑painted tiles that together reveal the famous phrase “You can, however you wish!” – a line often used by Dirk – and the back of the cork is designed to double as a coaster. A booklet is also included, inviting you to explore the essence of the project. Specially conceived and created for this packaging, there is an exclusive wooden board with a green leather handle and a numbered knife, embodying the concept of “Vintage with a knife in its teeth.” The key chosen by Dirk to open this edition’s case pays homage to and reminds him of his father, Rolf, an avid collector of various objects—especially keys—mirrored in this replica. The numbered label is a unique, innovative piece that embraces the original screen‑printed Niepoort Bioma Vintage Vinha da Pisca 2017 bottle. Inside, a small comic strip illustrates Dirk and his father’s key corridor, which can be detached and used, for example, as a postcard. Each label features an irreverent image, enhanced by molded embossing and printed foil, and is hand‑applied with resin medals in tribute to the six generations of the Niepoort family. The inspiration comes from the founder’s symbol, which forms the basis of Niepoort’s logo. Inside the bottle is an exceptional Vintage Port that not only respects the terroir but also transports us back to the golden age of Port wine. At the heart of the Bioma Vintage “Vinha da Pisca” concept lies a very special vineyard, situated in a uniquely remarkable location within the Douro region. Our goal is to offer, through limited production, an old‑school way of vinifying a Vintage, similar to the Vintage Ports of 1970 and earlier that were bottled in England. The exceptional quality of the old vines at Vinha da Pisca seems to express its sense of “place” magnificently when we apply the “logic” of past times. Vinification: The 2017 vintage is remembered for intense heat and historically low rainfall, yet the harvest, at the perfect ripening moment, allowed the grapes to be received under ideal conditions, with fantastic natural acidity. All the clusters of the Bioma Vintage were foot‑crushed at our Port wine vinification centre in Vale de Mendiz. After fortification with grape brandy, the Port was allowed to stabilise over the winter. In spring, the wine was transferred to a cooler part of the cellar at Quinta de Nápoles and placed in traditional 550‑litre barrels (pipas). By ageing this Port in pipas in a cool cellar in the Douro region, rather than in large vats in Gaia, and bottling the Bioma “Vinha da Pisca” in the third year after harvest, we were able to produce an exceptionally complex wine. Interestingly, this was how it was done in the “good old days,” when wines were shipped in pipas to England and bottled later. Allergen information: Contains sulfites. SKU: 105911
