In Portugal’s national wine panorama, there is no producer more popular than Niepoort, whose long history began in 1842 when the first Van der Niepoort arrived in the country. Starting out in the Port wine market as a merchant, he quickly set up a business that would prove prosperous and forward‑looking. Thus, in the fifth generation, Dirk Niepoort was born, an influential producer in the wine world, recognised as one of the most important figures to have worked for and for the sake of Portuguese wine. He has collaborated with dozens of producers, helping them improve their wines and understand their vineyards, while simultaneously building his legacy with those who always create bold wines.
