In Portugal’s wine landscape there is no producer more popular than Niepoort, and the long history began in 1842 with the first Van Der Niepoort arriving in the country. Starting out in the Port wine market as a merchant, he quickly set up his business, which would prove both prosperous and forward‑looking. Thus, in the fifth generation Dirk Niepoort was born—a prominent figure in the world of wine, recognized as one of the most important personalities who has worked, and continues to work, for Portuguese wine. He has collaborated with dozens of producers, helping them improve their wines and understand their vineyards, while also building his own legacy alongside those who are always creating bold, unconventional wines.
