After seven vintages as a winemaker at the Real Companhia Velha, Jorge Moreira felt the need to launch an independent project where he could apply his ideas and control every step of production. Without concessions, a wine that would reflect his interpretation of the Douro. In 2001 he began the Poeira project, situated in Provesende on a slope in the Vale do Pinhão, on the right bank of the river of the same name. The Vinha da Torre vineyard, located in Covas do Douro, was planted in 1950. It is an old vine with good age, vines in excellent condition, and altitude and sun exposure characteristics that perfectly fit the Poeira philosophy. Here you find all the concentration and complexity of the Douro, but without excesses, resulting in a wine of great elegance and balance. The Vinha da Torre Tinto is produced from old‑vine vines with a blend of varieties, on slate soils at 400 metres altitude. The harvest is manual, in 20 kg boxes, and fermentation takes place in a press, followed by malolactic fermentation in barrels and a maturation stage in French oak barrels. The Vinha da Torre Tinto reveals all the authenticity of the Douro, reflecting the tradition of old vines and meticulous attention to detail at every stage of production, from harvest to bottling.
