In the 19th century, the catastrophic spread of powdery mildew, downy mildew and phylloxera forced viticulturists to graft vines onto olive trees in order to survive. In the 20th century, the creation of cooperative wineries reinvigorated the vine and wine culture, and it was in this context that AcR was founded in 1956 by a group of 14 vintners, confirming Alentejo’s wine potential in the 1980s. Today the winery is one of the largest producers in the Alentejo region, bringing together roughly two hundred producers—about 95 % of the Redondo sub‑region. (illustrative image)
