Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, founded in 1922 under the name João Pires & Filhos, has charted a long journey, establishing itself as one of the most innovative wine producers in Portugal. The company began by producing wines from grapes grown in the Palmela region. During the 1980s, Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal expanded its operations, acquiring vineyards across the country and creating new paradigms for quality wine production. The Quinta da Bacalhôa, regarded as the finest estate from the first half of the 15th century still existing in Portugal, was once a property of the Portuguese Royal Household. Located in Azeitão, the estate and the famous Palace of Bacalhôa form an artistic monument of great national significance. Today, the Quinta da Bacalhôa is owned by the Fundação Berardo, belonging to the Berardo family whose patriarch is Commander José Berardo. It was declared a National Monument on 23 June 1910. Around the Quinta da Bacalhôa, visitors find picturesque villages, wine cellars, and one of Portugal's most beautiful and imposing landscapes – the Arrábida Natural Park. (Illustrative image only)
