Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, founded in 1922 under the name João Pires & Filhos, has come a long way, establishing itself as one of the most innovative wine producers in Portugal. The company’s activity began with the production of wines made from grapes grown in the Palmela region. During the 1980s, Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal started expanding, acquiring estates across the country and setting new standards for quality wine production. Quinta da Bacalhôa, considered the most beautiful estate of the first half of the 15th century still existing in Portugal, is an ancient property of the Portuguese Royal House. Located in Azeitão, the estate and the famous Bacalhôa Palace together form an artistic monument of great significance to the country. Today, Quinta da Bacalhôa belongs to the Berardo Foundation, part of the family that shares its name, whose patriarch is Commander José Berardo. On 23 June 1910, it was classified as a National Monument. In the area surrounding Quinta da Bacalhôa, visitors find picturesque villages, cellars, and one of Portugal’s most beautiful and imposing landscapes – the Arrábida Natural Park.
