A wine of intense, bright red color. It offers aromas of red fruit with spice notes brought by the wood. The palate is rich, with firm tannins that are clearly present; Touriga Nacional delivers elegance, while Touriga Franca adds fruity notes, and Tinta Roriz provides body, culminating in a persistent and flavorful finish. Quinta da Vacaria, one of the region’s oldest estates (first recorded in 1616), sits on the banks of the Douro River beside the town of Régua, in the heart of the world’s oldest demarcated wine region. At the estate’s quay, Rabelo boats would dock to load barrels full of port wine and transport them to Gaia, at the river’s mouth, where they were sold in bulk worldwide. The barrels, unmarked with the producer’s seal, left the estate’s identity hidden. Upon arrival, the wine was bottled and labeled with the brand of the foreign merchants who purchased it, some of whom later gained considerable prestige. (Illustrative image only.)
