The Quinta das Bágeiras Garrafeira is made from Baga grapes sourced from very old vines, more than 90 years old. It is produced only in exceptional years, revealing the authentic expression of the Bairrada region. It is a red wine with a solid structure, powerful tannins, great freshness and complexity, making it ideal for bottle ageing. The name Mário Sérgio Alves Nuno may not ring a bell for the most distracted, but he is the great mentor behind Quinta das Bágeiras’ fine wines. The estate’s history spans three generations, yet it was only in 1989, under Mário Sérgio’s leadership, that Quinta das Bágeiras began bottling and selling its wines, quickly becoming a benchmark in Bairrada and Portugal. While following the methods of earlier generations, the wines of Quinta das Bágeiras are never fads—they remain in vogue, reflecting the character of the region and its people with each harvest.
