It is a wine made from grapes grown on vines over 15 years old, produced in limited quantities, and aged in used French oak barrels sourced from Burgundy. The bouquet is fruity, mineral and highly complex, with hints of compote, bergamot and spices. On the palate it is firm, with well‑integrated acidity and a long finish. The name Mário Sérgio Alves Nuno may not mean much to the less attentive, but he is the great mentor behind the outstanding wines of Quinta das Bágeiras. The estate’s history spans three generations, yet it was only in 1989, under Mário Sérgio’s leadership, that Quinta das Bágeiras began bottling and selling its wines, quickly becoming a benchmark in Bairrada and Portuguese wines. Though crafted according to the methods of earlier generations, the wines of Quinta das Bágeiras are not trend‑driven but always on trend, revealing each harvest the character of the region and its people.
