It is a wine produced from grapes harvested from vineyards more than 15 years old, with reduced yields, and aged in used French oak barrels acquired in the Burgundy region. The aroma is fruity, mineral, and very complex, with notes of compote, bergamot, and spices. On the palate it is firm, with plenty of well-integrated acidity and a long finish. The name Mário Sérgio Alves Nuno may not mean much to the uninitiated, but he is none other than the great mentor behind the outstanding wines of Quinta das Bágeiras. The history of Quinta das Bágeiras already spans the work of three generations; however, it was only in 1989, under Mário Sérgio's guidance, that the Quinta das Bágeiras wines began to be bottled and sold, quickly becoming a benchmark for wines from Bairrada and in Portugal. Although crafted according to the methods of previous generations, the wines of Quinta das Bágeiras are not wines of fashion, but are always in fashion, revealing with each vintage the character of the region and of the people who produce them.
