The name Mário Sérgio Alves Nuno may not immediately ring a bell for the less attentive, but he is in fact the great mentor behind the outstanding wines of Quinta das Bágeiras. The estate’s story stretches back to three generations of work, yet it was only in 1989, under Mário Sérgio’s leadership, that Quinta das Bágeiras began bottling and selling its wines, quickly becoming a benchmark for Bairrada wines and for Portugal as a whole. Though crafted following the procedures of earlier generations, the wines of Quinta das Bágeiras are not fleeting fads; they are always in vogue, revealing each harvest the character of the region and the people who produce them.
