The Sanguinhal Agricultural Company was founded in the 1920s by Abel Pereira da Fonseca in the Bombarral region. At that time, Abel Pereira da Fonseca owned the largest chain of retail wine outlets in the country, and he used that position to create a company dedicated solely to the production and trade of wines. The company comprises three estates: Quinta do Sanguinhal, Quinta das Cerejeiras, and Quinta de São Francisco, all located in the Lisbon Wine Region, specifically within the Demarcated Region of Óbidos. Here the properties benefit from a microclimate shaped by the Montejunto Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean, which gives the still, fortified, and spirit wines a fresh and balanced profile that reveals their unique character.
