The Quinta de Chocapalha is located in the village of Aldeia Galega, in Alenquer, within the Lisbon Region. Though it is regarded as a relatively young producer in terms of bottled wines, the estate’s history dates back to the 16th century, during the reign of King João VI. Its fortunes changed dramatically when the Tavares da Silva family acquired it in the 1980s. Soon after, the family invested heavily in the vineyards and winemaking facilities, with the sole aim of achieving maximum quality and preserving the reputation that this Quinta has always enjoyed. Everything was in place for Sandra Tavares da Silva—renowned producer from the Douro and daughter of the Tavares da Silva family—to take the reins of the house’s enology. It quickly became evident that this estate would produce beautiful wines and would become one of the most important and best producers in the Lisbon Region. With 45 hectares of vineyards, the estate produces both white and red wines from national varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, and Arinto, as well as international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon.
