The Quinta de Chocapalha is located in Aldeia Galega, Alenquer, in the Lisbon Region. Although we know it as a fairly young producer in terms of bottled wines, the estate’s records date back to the 16th century, during the reign of King João VI. The fortunes of this longstanding house changed radically when the Tavares da Silva family acquired it in the 1980s. The family quickly invested heavily in the vineyard and winemaking facilities, aiming for maximum quality and preserving the reputation that the estate had always enjoyed. With Sandra Tavares da Silva, a renowned producer from the Douro and daughter of the Tavares da Silva family, taking the helm of the house’s enology, it soon became clear that this estate would produce beautiful wines and become one of the most important and best producers in the Lisbon Region. Over its 45 ha of vines, the estate makes both whites and reds from national varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz and Arinto, and international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon. Its wines truly rank among the best in the region and are a delight on the table.
