Quinta de Cidrô Located in São João da Pesqueira, one of the most renowned wine‑producing areas of the Douro, Quinta de Cidrô has become a model of viticultural experimentation for the entire region. On a virgin land, state‑of‑the‑art technology was used to plant the finest varieties across an area exceeding 150 ha. In this privileged setting, several international varieties coexist harmoniously with the regional grapes. Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Pinot Noir and the adaptable, noble Cabernet Sauvignon each express their best characteristics here, when combined with the immense enological capacity offered by Real Companhia Velha. The wine Quinta do Cidrô Chardonnay is another superb outcome of the ongoing innovation in our vineyards. **Year 2022** A very challenging vintage, marked by one of the most severe historic dry spells across all seasons. Annual rainfall was 290 mm, less than half the regional average of 650 mm, threatening the survival of many native plants. Conversely, the drought created less favorable conditions for disease and pest development in the vines. Shoot emergence occurred in the last half of March, while flowering began earlier than usual, with several cases of premature leaf drop. “An atypical year of atypical ripening” – strong climatic pressure caused forced and uncertain maturations, with grapes failing to reach typical sugar levels and exhibiting very high pH. At RC V, the 2022 harvest began on 8 August and finished almost two months later on 6 October. **Fermentation and Maturation** The grapes are hand‑picked and transported to the cellar in 20 kg crates. After a manual selection process, the bunches are destemmed and the grapes are pressed in a pneumatic press. Following a 24‑hour decantation, alcoholic fermentation occurs in stainless‑steel tanks at 14‑16 °C. Eighty percent of the Chardonnay ages in French oak barrels (30 % new wood) for eight months in contact with fine lees using the batonage method, while twenty percent matures in stainless steel until bottling. **Allergen Information** Contains sulfites.
