Produced from the Cerceal grape variety, this white wine ferments and ages in French oak barrels. It therefore displays a straw‑yellow hue with complex aromas of citrus, honey and fennel, complemented by an excellent structure and balanced acidity, alongside subtle notes of vanilla and smoke imparted by the barrels. The Quinta de Foz de Arouce is located in the municipality of Lousã, in the Beiras region. It is surrounded by the foothills of the Serras da Lousã and Penela and is watered by the Arouce and Ceira rivers, where the former empties. Historic documents in the house record the property as belonging to the family since the eighteenth century; some of the buildings are even older, as the original house was burned down twice. The chapel adjoining the house was founded by a brief papal decree of Pope Benedict XIII on 24 August 1724. Vine cultivation at this site dates back to the Visigothic occupation of the peninsula, as various legends attest that King Arunce stored wine, among other precious goods, in his castle in Lousã. The wine production at the estate is intertwined with the history and demarcation of the property, and today—together with the cellar—it is the only known such establishment in the region.
