This Quinta do Mouro is a gastronomic wine with a strong identity, produced from grapes grown on vineyards planted at 450 meters altitude, on soils of slate, marble, and limestone, in a Mediterranean climate zone. It displays an intense ruby color and great aromatic complexity, having aged for 14 months in Portuguese oak barrels. On the palate it is full-bodied, with round tannins and a powerful yet elegant structure, showcasing an excellent balance between dark fruit notes, vegetal and earthy tones, and subtle spice nuances. It also retains some acidity, giving it freshness and mineralism—a rarity among Alentejo reds. The finish is round and long, promising a good evolution in bottle over the years. Located within the city of Estremoz, the estate stands out for its beauty and history, featuring a stone‑washed 18th‑century building, impressive gardens, groves, caramanchões, tanks, and other 17th‑century works of art, and today is also renowned for its excellent wines. The Quinta was in the possession of the Zagalo family for many years, who used it as a holiday home. Unfortunately, in 1974, with the April 25 Revolution, the house and estate were invaded and left abandoned. In 1979 the property was purchased by Miguel Louro, who remains its owner to this day, beginning wine production in the 1980s. (Illustrative image)
