Quinta do Mouro is a gastronomic wine with a strong identity, made from grapes grown on vineyards planted at 450 metres above sea level, on slate, marble and limestone soils, in a Mediterranean climate zone. It displays an intense ruby colour and great aromatic complexity, having spent 14 months maturing in Portuguese oak barrels. On the palate it is full-bodied, with round tannins and a powerful yet elegant structure, showing an excellent balance between black fruit notes and vegetal, earthy, and spice nuances. It also has some acidity, giving it freshness and mineralism – a rarity in Alentejo reds. The finish is round and long, promising good bottle evolution over the years. Located in the city of Estremoz, Quinta stands out for its beauty and history, with a stone-built 18th‑century architecture, cherished gardens, groves, ornamental ponds, cisterns and other 18th‑century artworks, and now for its excellent wines. The property was owned for many years by the Zagalo family, who used it as a holiday home until it was invaded and abandoned in 1974 following the 25th of April revolution. In 1979 the estate was bought by Miguel Louro, who remains the owner today and began wine production in the 1980s.
