Quinta Poço do Lobo Reserva Tinto Magnum is a red wine from Bairrada, Portugal, produced by Caves São João. The winemaking is overseen by José Carvalheira. It is a blend of the Baga, Touriga Nacional and Cabernet Sauvignon grape varieties. Vintage 2019. Winemaking of Quinta do Poço do Lobo Reserva Tinto: the finest grapes grown at our Quinta do Poço do Lobo were hand-harvested and, after rigorous selection and destemming, macerated for 10 days in a lagar with a pneumatic punch-down. Following malolactic fermentation, the wine was aged for 12 months in oak casks. It was bottled after minimal clarification. Deep ruby in colour. Complex, with predominantly red and black fruit notes, along with aromas from the barrel in which it was aged and subtle herbal nuances. On the palate, it is dense, structured and fresh, with flavourful tannins and good length. It pairs well with soft cheeses, cured meats and game, and red meats. Serve at 16–18 °C. With 13.5% ABV, it comes in a 1.5 L magnum bottle. To get the most from this red, open the bottle a few minutes before serving and pour it into a wide-bowled glass, which allows the aromas to breathe. For younger, more concentrated wines, a brief decanting helps soften the tannins. Store the bottle on its side, in a cool, dark place free from temperature fluctuations. Once opened, reseal the bottle and keep it in the refrigerator to preserve the aromas.
