However, it was in 1996 that a new era of excellence began, when Cristiano van Zeller acquired the family estate of his wife, Joana Lemos van Zeller. Over more than two decades, Cristiano has led a dedication‑filled endeavor, crafting unique wines of recognized quality both in Portugal and abroad. The acquisition of Quinta Vale D. Maria by the Aveleda group in 2017 represents the continuation of this legacy, adding a long‑term vision focused on excellence and sustainability. This philosophy is grounded in a passion for every detail, from the manual selection of the finest clusters, through the use of traditional vinification techniques, to the careful choice of premium French oak barrels.
