In the nineteenth century, the catastrophic emergence of powdery mildew, botrytis, and phylloxera forced growers to interplant vines with olive trees in order to survive. By the twentieth century, the rise of cooperative wineries revitalised the vine and wine culture. It was within this context that the AcR was founded in 1956 by a group of 14 growers, confirming Alentejo’s vinicultural potential in the 1980s. Today the winery is one of the largest producers in the Alentejo Region, bringing together roughly two hundred growers—about 95 % of the Redondo sub‑region. (Illustrative image only)
