**Villa Maria** **Vineyard:** The Taylors Pass vineyard lies on the north bank of the Awatere River, in the south of Marlborough. The vines have an average age of 14 to 19 years. Sheltered from the prevailing cold easterly winds, each terrace of the vineyard has a different soil type: stony gravels lie closest to the river, the middle terrace is silt over gravel, and the highest terrace has a deeper layer of silt over a base of papa clay. This mosaic of soils gives the vineyard very varied ripening patterns. **Winemaking:** Fully fermented in stainless steel, using yeasts selected for their texture and aroma. Carefully monitored lees contact contributes to the build of weight and texture on the palate. Prized for its fresh acidity and intense citrus aromas and flavours, Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is made to be enjoyed. The aromas that fill the room and the distinctly fresh character of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc are the reason for its popularity and for a memorable experience. Look a little deeper, and you will discover a highly expressive style of wine, capable of enormous variety and distinction. Sauvignon Blanc pairs perfectly with fresh shellfish, such as sautéed scallops or grilled sea bass, served with a fresh salad of rocket, goat's cheese and melon. **Wine Enthusiast:** Strawberry leaf, lime zest and ginger stand out in this aromatic white. On the palate, it is fresh, crisp and silky, with a sense of slight residual sugar that contributes to the texture more than to sweetness as such. It would be excellent with spicy Southeast Asian food. **New Zealand Wine Rater:** An intense, metallic and powerful nose, with penetrating aromas of nettles, Thai basil, passion fruit flower, nectarine and lemon zest, with hints of struck match. A concentrated, powerful and flavourful wine, with exuberant citrus fruit, a focused texture, firm acidity and a long, dry, stony finish. **James Suckling:** A vibrant nose of gooseberry, lime, passion fruit and guava. Medium-bodied with an intense, fruity and flavourful palate. Mature, tropical finish. Drink now. Screw cap. **Falstaff:** An immediate and vivid presence of white currant and passion fruit on the nose. Notes of pea shoots and a slight touch of smoke. On the palate, the fruit explodes against a very textured, full and concentrated body. Sweet citrus, think tangerine with a hint of lime, dominates, while vibrant tropical notes come through. A rich, rounded and very expressive wine, with enough structure to age. **Awards** 95/100 – Cameron Douglas MS 95/100 – Decanter World Wine Awards 94/100 – Falstaff 93/100 – New Zealand Wine Rater 91/100 – CellarTracker 90/100 – Wine Enthusiast **Allergen information** Contains sulphites.
